In June 2008, Prime Minister released India’s first National Action Plan on Climate Change outlining existing and future policies and programs addressing climate mitigation and adaptation. The plan identifies eight core “National Missions” namely:

  • National Solar Mission
  • National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency
  • National Mission on Sustainable Habitat
  • National Water Mission
  • National Mission for Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystem
  • National Mission for Green India
  • National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture
  • National Mission for Strategic Mission for Climate Change

In line with National Action Plan on Climate Change, City of Delhi released its Climate Change Agenda on 5th November 2009. It broadly follows the NAPCC except two aspects of Himalayan Ecosystem and Agriculture and is adapted to urban challenges of Delhi as an emerging global metropolis.

Delhi State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) beyond 2012 is being prepared on the lines of National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) in further extension to the Climate Change Agenda, as per the framework of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India. The sectors identified under Climate Change Agenda mainly include Water Resources, Forest, Biodiversity & Horticulture, Transportation, Health, Energy & Power, Urban Planning and Vulnerability Assessment.
