Burning of leaves campaign:

  • As per Section 37 of the Air Act, 1981, whoever fails to comply with the provisions of Section 31 (A) is liable for punishment with imprisonment for a term which would not be less than one year and six months, but which may extend to six years with fine, and in case the failure continues, with an additional fine which may extend to Rs. 5,000 every day.
  • National Green Tribunal vide its order dated 28.04.2015 in O.A No. 21/2014 has imposed compensation on burning of any kind of garbage leaves, waste plastic, rubber, self–moulding compound and such other material in open as under:
  • “..the person who is found actually burning such material and/or responsible for or abating such burning would be liable to pay compensation in terms of the Section 15 of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010 for polluting the environment and would be liable to pay a sum of Rs. 5,000, to be paid instantaneously.”
  • Environment Department, GNCTD organized three half day workshops for areas under Jurisdiction of North MCD, South MCD and East MCD on “Prohibition on open burning of any kind of material - A Small Step Targeting Big Impact” on 14.06.2017, 14.09.2017 and 01.02.2018 at Delhi Secretariat. Workshops were for public awareness and interaction with implementing authorities. The officials from North MCD ,South MCD and East MCD i.e. SI/ASI and horticulture wing participated in the workshops along with RWAs, School/Colleges from the areas under jurisdiction of North MCD South MCD and East MCD respectively.
